The Effect of Digital Psychoeducation on Family Mental Health Detection

Abstract

Mental disorders among adolescents and young adults remain a major public health concern because most disorders begin before adulthood, while early recognition is still limited by family mental health literacy, stigma, and service access barriers. This study aimed to synthesize empirical evidence on the effect of information system-based mental health nursing psychoeducation on family ability to detect mental disorders among adolescents and young adults. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA 2021 approach. Articles were searched in Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink using Boolean combinations related to psychoeducation, family, digital mental health, mental health literacy, early detection, adolescents, and young adults. The review included English or Indonesian publications from 2020 to 2026 that discussed digital or information system-based mental health education and early recognition outcomes. Six studies met the inclusion criteria. The synthesis showed that digital psychoeducation, mental health literacy modules, mobile applications, and web-based interventions improved symptom recognition, knowledge of depression and anxiety, help-seeking orientation, and family or lay-network involvement. Evidence for parent-focused outcomes remained promising but methodologically limited because of heterogeneous designs, small samples, and inconsistent measurement tools. Information system-based mental health nursing psychoeducation has potential as a promotive and preventive strategy to strengthen family capacity for early detection of adolescent and young adult mental disorders. Stronger experimental studies, standardised instruments, and long-term evaluations are required
