Abstract

Pregnant women experience physical and psychological changes that can be influenced by an unsupportive environment. Mothers who are unable to adapt during the postpartum period may experience psychological distress, which also affects breast milk production. This is highly dangerous as it will impact breastfeeding self-efficacy. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of providing health education via e-booklets on breastfeeding self-efficacy and the early detection of postpartum blues in pregnant women. A quasi-experimental design was utilized with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The study population consisted of third-trimester primigravida mothers. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, yielding a total sample of 64 respondents (32 respondents in the intervention group and 32 in the control group). This study utilized instruments in the form of questionnaires on breastfeeding self-efficacy and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The collected data were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of maternal empowerment through health education via e-booklets on breastfeeding self-efficacy and postpartum blues using the Independent Sample T-test, as the data were normally distributed. The results showed that empowering mothers through health education using e-booklets was proven effective in increasing breastfeeding self-efficacy and reducing the incidence of early detection of postpartum blues among pregnant women in the intervention group, with a p-value of ρ = 0.000 (< 0.05) for each. In conclusion, empowering pregnant women through health education using e-booklets significantly affects breastfeeding self-efficacy and EPDS scores.
